Who Gets the Food?

Who Gets the Food?

We collect thousands of pounds of food every two months. Where does it go?

The Ella Curran Food Bank has served the Monmouth Independence area for more than 30 years. Ella Curran began by filling the trunk of her car with food and going to places in town where the need was greatest.

Today, Ella Curran Food Bank is open four days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday mornings; Tuesday afternoon 4–6PM.

Each month there are between 250 and 295 family visits to the food bank. These families total between 850 and 1000 people. Each year we serve approximately 650 local families in the area. Who are these neighbors? Single/widowed seniors, new graduates, care-givers, families, workers with minimum wage jobs, multi-generational families, homeless, hospice patients, transplant recipients, people in training for a new career, people with new jobs trying to get off public assistance, older, displaced workers trying to get back into the work force…and more.

In addition, the food bank provides food to the Central High School food pantry and the Community Services Consortium Youth Program. This is another 140 students per month.

The Food Bank is operated completely by all volunteers and all donated food. There are 25 volunteers providing more than 400 hours of service per month. Like Ella Curran on Facebook; or visit ellacurranfoodbank.com
